Luminaires & Cie is a retailer specialized in decorative and architectural lighting. A family-owned business founded in 1986, it built a solid reputation through the variety and exceptional quality of its offerings.
Its website serves both as a transactional storefront for online customers and as an internal catalogue for its 15 in-store advisors. The convergence of digital and retail is at the heart of their omnichannel strategy.
THE CHALLENGE
Data creation could no longer keep up with growth.
Every product listing was a semi-manual process. Matrixify, complex Excel grids, constant juggling between formats. With around 50 suppliers each delivering datasheets in their own format, often incomplete, sometimes English-only, standardization was a never-ending project.
Each fixture can exist in dozens of different combinations: metallic finishes, dimensions, glass colors. Managing variants was a headache, compounded by Shopify's own technical limits. French-English translation through Langify remained laborious. Images came from diverse sources and were never standardized. And no metafield strategy had been implemented to structure data and optimize search. The catalogue was a prisoner of its own processes.
THE COMPLEXITY

We developed a mass import tool designed specifically to interface with Shopify and optimized for Luminaires & Cie's requirements. At its core: an intelligent system that reads a standardized Excel template with over 50 columns. Data from all suppliers flows through the same format.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Automated translation. And that's just the beginning.
The language barrier, previously a real brake on growth, is now resolved. An automated translation process is integrated directly into the Excel file. The tool also has an evolving translation capability based on OpenAI's artificial intelligence.
In parallel, AI can enrich and structure data upstream: automatic attribute classification, value standardization, inconsistency detection. Every product sheet comes out complete, clean, and ready for use. Teams are freed from low-value repetitive tasks.
